For SomaliREN member institutions to securely and reliably access and share resources (services and content) over the NREN and other data networks in Somalia and the world over, the SomaliREN Identity Federation (SIF) was established in November 2021.
An institution can apply to join (download form) the SomaliREN Identity Federation (SIF) as an Identity Provider (IdP) or a Service Provider (SP).
The SomaliREN Identity Federation is a vital part of the Somali e-Research infrastructure landscape enabling safe and secure exchange of information between education and research communities both locally and internationally.
Only SomaliREN member institutions can join SIF as Identity Providers (IdPs). However, to join SIF as a Service Provider (SP), an institution, organization, or company DOES NOT have to first subscribe to SomaliREN Membership. Access to resources federated through SomaliREN is governed by the SomaliREN Identity Federation Policy. Metadata registration in SIF is governed by the SIF Metadata Registration Practice Statement.
