Connectivity Service

SomaliREN has been committed to enhancing the digital capabilities of its member institutions by offering high-quality, reliable internet connectivity that is distinctly different from commercial offerings. Our network is built to serve the unique needs of the academic community, offering dedicated bandwidth that ensures consistent and reliable internet access at significantly lower costs than standard commercial internet, which is typically shared among many users. This dedicated service allows for uninterrupted research activities, high-speed data transfer, and seamless collaboration with peers worldwide.
SomaliREN operates through three strategically placed Points of Presence (PoPs):

  1. PoP in Zone 1: Located in Mogadishu, this PoP serves as a central hub for our network operations within Mogadishu and surrounding regions.
  2. PoP in Zone 2: Situated in Garowe, Puntland, this facility extends our reach, ensuring that institutions in Zone 2 have robust connectivity.
  3. PoP in Hargeisa: This PoP supports our members in Zone 3, facilitating a reliable and efficient network connection.

By connecting to the UbuntuNet Alliance (UA), the Regional Research and Education Network for Eastern and Southern Africa, SomaliREN ensures that its members are part of a broader, global community of research and education institutions. This connection not only enhances collaboration and access to international educational resources but also supports a variety of critical applications
and projects that require specialized internet service
