The Somali Librarians and Knowledge Managers Society, an esteemed community of practice under the auspices of the Somali Research and Education Network (SomaliREN), stands as a beacon for librarians, information specialists, and knowledge managers in Somalia and across East Africa. Aspiring to be the premier professional body in our field, we dedicate ourselves to elevating the standards and impact of information work in alignment with global professional benchmarks.

We are committed to:

1: Unifying, representing, and advancing the interests of information work professionals in Somalia, holding ourselves to the highest international      professional standards.

2: Fostering the professional growth, development, and ethical integrity of our members.

3: Upholding, promoting, and monitoring standards of excellence in the management, creation, and use of information and knowledge resources.

Our society seeks to:

1:  Facilitate dialogue and collaboration among information professionals and institutions at various levels, fostering a culture of communication       and cooperation both within Somalia and internationally.

2:  Advocate for and influence the formulation of government policies that enhance information accessibility.

3:   Guarantee that individuals across all societal strata can access information, fueling personal growth and national advancement.

4:  Supply crucial information to bolster government efforts in key areas such as poverty eradication, education enhancement, anti-corruption           measures, and the promotion of peace, security, and ICT development.

5:  Cultivate and maintain a culture of reading and knowledge, pivotal for Somalia’s socio-economic progress.

6:  Work closely with essential stakeholders to establish a comprehensive network of school libraries throughout Somalia.

7:  Enhance professional skills that contribute to the socio-economic enrichment of our nation.

8:  Support the incorporation of information and communications technology (ICT) into libraries and the broader national information                         framework.
