About US

SomaliREN is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that operates on a membership basis, founded and owned by its member institutions. Serving as the national research and education network (NREN), its primary mandate is to develop and implement e-infrastructures specifically designed for research and education purposes. This mandate is officially recognized by relevant regulatory and governing entities. SomaliREN is responsible for building, managing, and maintaining these e-infrastructures, as well as introducing services tailored to meet the requirements of Somali higher education and research institutions. It also fosters the development of communities of practice (CoP), enhances research capabilities within its member institutions, and promotes academic collaboration.
As a rapidly evolving and agile organization, SomaliREN prioritizes innovation and the continual enhancement of its services. It is a valued member of the UbuntuNet Alliance, the regional research and education network serving eastern and southern Africa, and the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN), reflecting its commitment to fostering academic and research collaboration both nationally and internationally.
